Why Is There So Much Evil? (A speech regarding the question "If God exists, why is there so much evil?")

   “If God exists, then why is there such tremendous sadness and evil? Doesn’t He care for us?” A usual question that we often hear, or we might even say.  Another question might be “Did God leave us?” These questions all point to one thing and that is God abandoning humanity and leaving such evil behind. Thus, making people all over the world question their faith.

In this world, sadness and evil will always be present. It is unavoidable, just like death. So, you might begin to ask yourself, “Would a caring and loving God give His children these curses?” The answer to that question is no, because just as mentioned, He is a loving and caring being. But there is one to blame for all these curses that was placed unto us. Is it Him? Certainly not. Is it us? or is it somebody else?

 

According to 1 John 5:19 “We know that we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.” So, who is this wicked one? Is it the president or the leaders of each country? Is it the citizens pertaining to our actions? or is it a being that we can’t see, yet that has full control over this world? The answer to that question is the latter. This being can be referred to as Lucifer or Satan. As aforementioned, God is a caring persona thus He cannot be the cause of evil in this world. According to 1 Peter 5:7 “While you throw all your anxiety upon him, because he cares for you.”

We have now established that God cannot be the source of evil that we see on our surroundings instead we can blame the “wicked one” or Satan for it. But now arises another question, “Why does He leave us to suffer for it? Couldn’t He just wipe it all away and makes us happy?” According to 2 Peter 3:9 “God is not slow concerning his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with you because he does not desire anyone to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance.” Through one man, which is Adam, sin spread into our world. From there on God wanted to erase that sin. He tried during Noah’s time, but it still prevailed. So now, He at least wants all to attain repentance first before removing the sin, which was caused by Adam, for good.

We need to understand that evil and death will always remain in our time. But let us not blame God for it. Instead let us blame the “wicked one” for all of it. And in due time, we can assure that He will take care of it and wipe it all away just as mentioned in Revelations 21:4
